Town Clerk

The Job: The Town Clerk is in charge of most town records, issues certain licenses and permits, files reports with county and State agencies as required, is involved with election administration, posts legal notices, and is, in many ways, a pivot around which the town operates. The Town Clerk manages the Town Clerk office and staff. The Town Clerk is also clerk of the Town Council but is not a voting member of the town council.

The District: Southold Town encompasses Orient, East Marion, Greenport, Greenport West, Fishers Island, Southold, Peconic, Laurel, Cutchogue, and Mattituck.

The Open Seats: The incumbent Town Clerk is retiring this year leaving an open seat.

For Town Clerk

Candace is a small business owner, licensed insurance broker/agent and native Greenporter, whose large extended family is deeply rooted in the community and service. In her current role as an insurance broker/agent, Candace’s job hinges on her ability to navigate complex regulations and guidelines while managing important documents with an attention to detail. With client service and satisfaction at the forefront, building and maintaining relationships with clients and industry professionals has allowed Candace to flourish in the insurance industry. As a former preschool teacher, she built lifelong connections with families and children from all walks of life in the metro DC area. Candace is passionate about doing the work to ensure diverse representation across all positions of power and government for the betterment of the next generation.

The clerk’s office is the community-facing branch of our local government and Candace’s ability to connect with the members of our community will serve the office and members of our community well. She is thrilled and overjoyed to bring her positive energy, administrative and management skills and her commitment to community to be a part of the changes she hopes to see in Southold and beyond.
